LotR Marathon

Old Extra Club Activities we did over the years.

I know we were only talking about Marathon length, but a marathon is hardly worth it if you want to sit through the whole thing. I liked the Harry Potter Movies, I think its great that fantasy is being opened up to a new generation, but I don't think I'd want to sit through all of them at once. Now LotR... I would watch that start to finish, and wouldn't even feel like I wasted my time.

Plus the Harry Potter plots are somewhat disconnected. LotR is one continuous story.

regardless... just having a better quality movie makes it in no way more appealing in a marathon format. For me, the idea of a marathon is somewhat repulsive, moreso when I consider a masterpiece as LOTR...

I like to digest all the subtleties and beauty of something like LOTR thing that you just can't do in 1 sitting (its just like reading a book from cover to cover in 1 sitting.. you get a great story in ur head but dont remember any of the beautiful styles employed, etc.).

Now I think a movie that is just relating a story strictly for its entertainment value is a much more likely candidate for a digestible marathon; coincidentally I think Harry Potter is one of those.

Now, in all honesty Im not up for a HP marathon cuz its too long. As for lotr, I like to take it in bit by bit.. lotr is just too awsome.

Lemme know when the thing happens.. I wanna catch the first movie (for some reason my fave.. the only one that didnt use camera shaking in action/battle scenes).

Alien trilogy? Quadrilogy? Hello? Anyone...? The fourth is a little disjointed, the first three would be the best way to go as it's the original Ripley in all of them. That Paul Reiser, what a great bad guy.

I'd go through an Alien Trilogy Marathon. Those were a good set of movies!

The fourth one was underrated because it employed the style of a decade later and was all... Neo-age and odd... But it had good story... weird good story.

What about throwing AVP in there too ahhahah.. horrible.

Alien.. I never liked.. cuz its just too .. uh scarry sorta thing. But not stupid idiotic horror, I mean great style and all but I just can't really take it. And 7 hours of that or whatever.. that would be *intense* haha.
Oh and I hate rippley.. I always found her to be annoying (within the act/role).

Though Id be up for it.. just for fun.

Anyone know that the 4th was directed by the same guy who does those french movies (Amelie, Delicatessen, City of Lost Children). One of my favorite directors.

Anyhow, I'd be up for a LOTR or Aliens marathon (w/ or w/out resurrection).

Depends on the date though...

For Star Trek, you could do a "Good Star Trek" marathon.

Maybe Star Trek: The Motion Picture to introduce the new ship and crew.

Then, for sure:
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

Then maybe Star Trek VIII: First Contact.

But definitely II, III, IV and VI would make a good marathon, about eight hours in total. More manageable than LotR even.

For LotR, I wouldn't watch extended versions of all three. I would actually suggest breaking into four parts: first, the Fellowship Theatrical cut because it's so well-edited and concise. Then the first part of The Two Towers Extended. Then the second part of Two Towers Extended, then after another break, theatrical cut of Return of the King.

Two Towers is really much better in its longer version, but the other two don't need the extra material quite as much, in my opinion.

Finally, later next year we'll be able to watch an X-Men Trilogy. That's pretty exciting.

I'm for the "good Strek" marathon, but I'll be there for LotR too.

though consider that the university closes on the 21st (wednesday)

I like the extendeds for Fellowship and RotK, lots more character development in the first and explanation and in RotK you see how badass witchking really is :-3. Not to mention a more closed introduction.

After watching the extended version for all 3 I got pretty pissed that there was such a thing as the Theatrical cut. In my opinion The Extened version makes LOTR much better (all 3 of them).

I regret buying the other ones... But it's ok, cause I'd probably buy them again on BluRay anyways...
